Hello, I’m Michelle Hughes, a printmaker and illustrator based in York, North Yorkshire. I make original limited edition linocut prints inspired by the British countryside and wildlife. 

In my online shop, you'll find original linocut prints for sale and greeting cards. Each linocut print is designed, carved and hand-printed in my York studio. I’m inspired by nature and my favourite views. Prints include the Yorkshire landscape, Yorkshire coast, Lake District and British wildlife.

How a linocut print is made​

Each colour for a print is hand-carved into traditional artists' linoleum. Semi-transparent oil-based ink is rolled onto the raised surface, and each colour is hand-printed using a hand-turned etching press. Due to the handmade nature of my prints, each one is subtly unique.

Illustration and design​

I create linocut prints and hand-drawn illustrations for commercial commissions such as marketing materials, book covers and editorial illustrations. Clients include the National Trust, BASF and Icon Publishing.
